Over the years there have been many ridiculous moments in performing arts at the Centre . . . dogs, catsuits, shows outside in the trees and many many others. For our 40th show, we returned to one of my all time favourite shows - 'Return to the Forbidden Planet' and learned, rehearsed, tech built and performed all in the space of 24 hours. (as you do) Joined by a very special bunch of our oldest teens, a few of our hard core adult contingent and our tech boys, we stayed up for a caffeine and sugar fuelled 24 hours straight to perform the show. It would be fair to say that it was quite a challenge, as is often the way, things didn't quite go to plan, things didn't quite work, the impact of no sleep made everything ten times harder for our cast and the heady mix that planet is - Shakespearean dialogue, 50s and 60 music (didn't in any way appreciate that none of our teens would know the shoop shoop song, the monster mash etc, I mean, who doesn't know those!), video effects (both live and pre-recorded), flashes, smoke, space, tentacles etc . . as ridiculous plans go this one was up there. That all said, I am hugely proud of them and the show we put on. Each and every one of them pulled their weight and beyond. From stepping up at 4am to tinfoil the youth area, to teaching harmony - they were all stars. I'd like to thank each and every one of them, along with my adult contingent -- a massive team effort from all. To celebrate our 40th show, I will be doing a skydive in March to raise funds to help support the Centre's performing arts programme.
